Respite Terms RECREATIONAL RESPITE
- coordinating activities, typically out in the community on a 1-1 basis; often requiring access to a vehicle
PARENTAL RELIEF
- providing care and supervision, typically in the family's home; that may also include caring for other siblings
STRUCTURED RESPITE
- similar to recreational respite with additional responsibilities involving structured approaches to certain issues (typically in the area of personal/social development)
- may also include some in-home respite similar to Parental Relief
PERSONAL SUPPORT
- similar to Parental Relief with additional responsibilities in the area of personal and/or medical care
- may include some out-of-home respite similar to Recreational Respite
TRADITIONAL RESPITE
- typically scheduled for evenings and weekends
- regular hours per week on a more flexible schedule
for example:
- 10 hours of respite a week
- 1 evening - usually Tuesday or Thursday from 6 - 10 pm
- 1 day - almost always on Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm
PROGRESSIVE RESPITE
- typically scheduled for after school or days through the week, but may also include some evenings and weekends
- regular hours per week on a more fixed schedule
for example:
- 12 hours of respite per week
- 3 afternoons - every Mon., Wed. and Fri. from 2 - 6 pm
- PLUS every 2nd or 3rd weekend evening from 5 - 9 pm
