The Central Region Respite Society is a community based non-profit agency funded by the Department of Community Services.

We believe that a strong family unit is essential when facing the challenges of caring for a family member with special needs.

Our Mission is to promote the well being of families through a comprehensive respite service, designed to meet the individual family needs and encourage the development of an independent support system.

The Central Region Respite Society was incorporated under the Societies Act in April of 1999. We are one of four regional respite service providers across the Province. Our service area is the whole of the Halifax Regional Municipality plus the communities of the Enfield - Elmsdale Corridor.

Our mandate is to offer individualized support services to any family in our area caring for a family member with special needs living at home.
We receive a grant from the Department of Community Services to assist families in identifying and accessing the community based supports they require to maintain the health and well being of their entire family.

In conjunction with the family, we facilitate the process of creating an independent support system that is designed around the needs of the family, by family, to further their personal goals as they define them.

Our Board of Directors has a strong representation from family members of people with special needs.

We are committed to parent involvement at all levels of decision making within the Central Region Respite Society.
