Family Information
The Family Referral ProcessFamilies are usually referred to CRRS through their caseworker with the Direct Family Support Program for Children. However, any family caring for a family member with special needs can refer themselves directly by simply contacting us and requesting services. There are no service or administration fees for any of the services CRRS provides, however the families are responsible to pay the respite care providers themselves.
The Family Visit
Typically a visit is scheduled at the family's home to discuss the various services CRRS offers and how they may be of use to the family. The Respite Services Agreement would be signed at this time. A respite care plan would be developed with the family, detailing what their respite needs are and how they want to have these needs met. This would include a Family Profile that would be used in the referral process when selecting a respite care provider.
The Recruitment, Screening and Provider Referral Process
CRRS would then begin the recruitment process by circulating the Family’s Posting on-line and at various local job boards. The responses would be reviewed and the suitable applicants would then be interviewed, screened and reference checked. A detailed care Provider Profile would be created and referred to the family. Please review the Screening Process page for more detailed information.
The Respite Care Provider Interview and Orientation
Once the family has reviewed a potential respite care provider’s detailed profile, and is satisfied with it, they can schedule an interview with that person. Families are encouraged to review the Sample Interview Questions and Orientation Checklist (provided by CRRS at the family visit) before meeting with their potential respite care provider. If the interview is successful CRRS suggests that the family and the respite care provider sign a Respite Support Agreement and review the Invoice / Receipt form. CRRS would also recommend that the family and the respite care provider set a date to start the orientation and training phase of their respite relationship. Please review the Financial Information page for more detailed information about the orientation phase.
